Residential Extension Commission: Headington, Oxford, Oxfordshire 5.
Client: Private Client.
Type: Residential extension.
Brief: This project, now complete, was a 2 storey side extension to an end of terrace property in Headington, Oxford. The existing property was victorian in era and set over 2 floors with modest gardens to the front and rear. After planning negotiations, approval was given in August of 2010.
At ground floor, the new extension provides a small motorbike workstop to the front with an open plan kitchen / dining area / play room to the rear. At first floor a small office is provided to the front with the remainder of the space open to the roof as a double height space suspended from the ridge by a steel suspension cable.
Given the aesthetic qualities of the existing building, materials for the extension were carefully selected so as to be in keeping where possible. Brickwork & roofing slates were re-claimed to match existing. Period sash windows are also provided throughout.
Build Cost: Approx £135k.
Status: Completed January 2012.
