Residential Extension Commission: North Oxford, Oxford, Oxfordshire 5

Client: Private Client.

Type: Rear Extension.

Brief: This project, now complete, was a single storey rear extension to a terraced house in Summertown, Oxford, Oxfordshire. The existing property, dating from the 1890’s, was set over 3 floors with a dilapidated extension to the rear. Our clients wanted to increase the size of their existing kitchen / dining area by adding a contemporary extension to their property. The extension was to create a large open plan kitchen / living / dining area with large bi-folding doors opening onto new decking. A flush rear door detail was provided to create a true inside / outside experience. A glass roof section was also provided to flood the centre of the existing property with natural light.

As part of the extension works, in order to create a unique open plan arrangement to the entire ground floor, two large openings were formed between the existing lounge and the new extension (requiring the removal of the entire rear ground floor wall of the property). These openings, while left open much of the time, also each have hidden sliding pocket doors so that they can be closed off if necessary.

Build Cost: Estimated at £60k.

Status: Completed March 2013.
