Residential Conversion Commission: Ivinghoe, Buckinghamshire.
Client: Private Client.
Type: Conversion Works (Change of Use).
Brief: This project, currently at detailed design stage, is to be the conversion of a chapel into a single dwelling. The existing shell of the property is some 14m (l) x 10m (w) in plan and approx 8m to the ridge of the roof (internal). Our clients brief is to convert the existing building into a 4 bedroom family home while preserving the character, aesthetic and spacial quality of the existing building. At ground floor the large open plan nature of the space is retained, but broken by accommodation pods which serve not only a spacial function, but also a structural one as support for the floor above. At first floor the bedrooms, accessed from a central spiral stair, will be detached from the side walls of the existing chapel so as to preserve the height of the space in these areas. In doing this, the period vaulted windows that run down both sides of the chapel can be retained and experienced in full. Off road parking will be provided to the front of the property. To the rear, existing delapidated structures are to be demolished and a generous garden created.
Build Cost: Estimated at £250k.
Status: Detailed Design Stage.
